| | | | Fitting & Building Custom Clubs requires the very best equipment as well as the education and know how and skill. This page explains some of the equipment we use to insure you have the best fit and best made golf equipment possible. After 40 years as a Golf Professional and the past 6 years as exclusively a Fitting Professional I’ve leaned a few things from hundreds of fittings. I use the equipment I do because it gives me the information I need to fit you for straight golf shots. When I started the game we had basically one golf shaft made of steel and they all weighed the same. It was necessary then to teach golfers to use the equipment they had because it was only available in one weight. Today thanks to graphite and titanium we can make golf clubs with almost any weight and weight distribution we want and with huge heads. The Importance of Weight in Your golf clubs. Through fitting hundreds of golfers over the past 6 years I have learned to fit clubs for weight distribution and balance clubs for more accurate and longer shots. By getting the total weight of the club and the relationship of head weight, shaft weight and grip weight balanced correctly I can help you swing more on a consistent swing path and help you square the club face at impact relative to your swing path. More importantly, I find the weight and balance point that is most natural for you. Finding the correct total weight and balancing the weight in the club for your swing will accomplish the results as shown in Screen 3 below. Consistent center hits on the clubface is a result of finding the correct length and lie for you, getting the clubface square to the swing path is a result of proper weighting of the club more than any other factor. For a self demonstration of this, try swinging with a wooden dowel rod and then with a broom. Notice how you tend to pick up the dowel with your right hand and start your swing outside the target path? Notice how the broom tends to pull your hands inside the target path and you have to use some strength to keep the broom in the air to swing it at all? From this, imagine having a club weighted so that you “naturally” take the club back along the target path, or very close to it every time you swing. It isn’t quite this simple, but this will give you an idea of how it works. The trick is to not only find the correct total weight to do this but to find the correct weight distribution along the length of the club that creates a balance point to allow the clubface to be square to the path at impact. Again when this is achieved you will see results as shown in Screen 3 below. The path and face angles in Screen 1 below is an example of the results of fitting properly. Once we have you swinging naturally and hitting straight shots we can work on getting the flex characteristics of the shaft, the right design and loft on the clubs and the right clubs in your bag to hit the ball not only straigher, but more consistently and longer too. | | | Using the electronic equipment above along with using a vast array of both fully assembled and interchangeable heads and shafts for test clubs we can test your swing with a range of flexes in 2 cpm increments and in various lengths at 1/2 inch increments. The accepted difference in Stiff, Regular, and other common flexes is typically measured in 10 cpm increments. This allows us to test you in 5 sub flexes to insure a more accurate fit. Getting the proper length on your clubs allows you to hit more shots in the center of the face for more consistency in your accuracy, launch angle, trajectory and distance. We will use various shafts and lead tape to test different weight configurations for you as proper weight is important to your swing tempo and swing path. We also fit for lie using a dynamic testing method of hitting each club and adjusting them to you as yo hit them to insure that each and every iron has the bet lie angle for you. We will measure your hand for the correct grip size to insure you have the correct grip pressure for you hand size. We have driver heads in various lofts and face angles to test for the optimum loft for you ball speed and angle of attack to insure you have the best possible launch angle and trajectory on your shots to maximize distance, and the optimum face angle to obtain straighter shots allow you to hit more fairways. |

| | | | | | | | Screen 1 - shows us you dispersion pattern, your swing path, face angle and launch angle, along with club speed, ball speed, and the area of the impact on the club face. We also have a yardage reading, how far off line, the maximum height of the shot and distance to the flag Screen 2 - shows a chart that track your last 10 shots for ball speed, club speed, launch angle, face angle (azimuth) & carry distance. This allow us to compare each club you hit to determine where your most effective set up is during our testing. Screen 3 - is the screen you see in the net while you hit your test clubs. You have the look and feel of a driving range with a green to line up and hit to. You can also see your ball flight on the screen after each shot to help you determine how you are hitting each test club. We will test various head designs, lofts, lies, lengths, flexes, & shaft profiles and you will see what performs best for your swing as the test goes forward. At the end of the session you will know what you need and you will decided how we proceed to customize & complement your existing set, or how we build your new set. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

Bring your clubs and shoes and prepare to spend the afternoon having fun and improving your golf game. Just like Tom. Good morning, Roy! I wanted to get the week started off right by sending you a thank you note for the recent change in my golf game. Thanks to my new driver and 7 wood, I have decided to continue playing ... I actually enjoy it now! My first outing with these new clubs produced remarkable results, but I was afraid to jinx myself by saying too much. The second round gave me the same down the middle of the fairway tee shots with the distance I expected. This past Saturday my son, Stuart, and I played the Lakeview course, and my driving and fairway wood play was more consistent than ever. I thought maybe I would give this game up after elbow surgery, but I am now determined to work on the rest of my game and play as much as possible. I have new found confidence and I thank you again for improving my consistency. Have a great week! Tom |
